6th Graders: Complete Simple Solutions Lesson 97 for tomorrow. Also, Complete the questions from your Elements of Literature book for the poem from todays class on page 623. We will be discussing these questions tomorrow in class so we all need to have them done in order to participate in the discussion. Remember to "give me the gift."

7th Graders: Complete Simple Solutions Lesson 97- many of you had this done already which is great. Also, in the Elements of Literature, read the story from O. Henry on Pages 239-242 for class tomorrow. We will be doing an assignment which will require you to have this read.

This Weekend’s Homework for 2/17/12

6th Graders- Complete Simple Solutions Lesson 96 and work on the Reading Comprehension Evaluation from pages 302-303 in the Elements of Literature book. Remember to use the context clues strategies we have worked on with Word Wisdom and apply those skills to this page- it will help.

7th Graders- Complete Simple Solutions Lesson 97. Read pages 169-174 in your Social Studies book and respond to questions 1, 3, 4, 5.

6th Grade HW: ILA- Simple Solutions Lesson 92, and remember that the rest of your rough drafts are due tomorrow- I am very excited to see what you all have come up with! Social Studies- If you have to finish the work from class, Page 217 questions 1-4 please turn that in tomorrow.

7th Grade HW: ILA- Simple Solutions 93, and continue to work on your projects. I will give you a little more class time tomorrow to work on them, but after that it is up to you to get the project done on your own time. Social Studies- if your group needs to get more work done for your presentations for Thursdays' class, work on getting that done. We will have one more period in class to work on them.

6th Grade- ILA: Complete Simple Solutions Lesson 91 for Monday, and the rough drafts of your stories should be finished for Tuesday's class. Don't forget, spelling test on Monday.

7th Grade- ILA- Simple Solutions Lesson 92. Bring any and all materials you will need to work on your projects because we will be using some time on Monday to work on them.

6th Grade HW: ILA- Complete Simple Solutions Lesson 90. Continue to practice your spelling words. Social Studies- Read Pages 198-199 and answer questions 1-3 on page 199.

7th Grade HW: ILA- Complete Simple Solutions Lesson 91. Complete Holt Handbook page 347, Exercise 1 for tomorrow's class. Social Studies- finish your letter to either: a) Parliament, b) King George III, or c) the Royal Governor expressing your feelings on the Stamp, Sugar, and Quartering Acts of the 1760's. Your letter should be set up properly and ready to hand in tomorrow, and you should take the perspective of an American colonist.

6th Graders: Complete Simple Solutions Lesson 88 for homework, and begin reviewing your spelling words. Here is the list of words (the list is also on page 344): Contact, contract, advance, depth, comment, summit, sketch, nonsense, splendid, ethnic, liquid, impulse. The test for these words will be on Monday, February 13th.

Social Studies homework is to read pages 198 and 199, and answer the questions on Page 199.

7th Grade Homework: Simple Solutions Lesson 89 as well as the journal entry discussed in class. The opening line of everyone's entry should read: In the left corner, behind the filing cabinet..." Remember, you can take this as anything you want it to be- if you like mysteries you can turn it into a "whodunit" type of story, if you enjoy historical fiction, you can write a short piece about historical fiction... Anything you want it to be! Your responses should be about a page in length- I cannot wait to see what you all come up with!

6th Grade Homework- The BIG homework for tonight is to study Social Studies! Attached here is the list of terms that we wrote down in class. All of these are fair game to be on the test tomorrow. You also have Simple Solutions Lesson 87 for tomorrow, and the next two paragraphs of your superhero stories will be due on Wednesday.

7th Grade Homework- Simple Solutions Lesson 88. If you did not turn in your Social Studies questions from page 159 that we collected today (questions 1, 3, 4, 5), they are due tomorrow to recieve credit for them. Also, everyone is to answer question 6 on page 159.

In a minimum of two paragraphs (with no less than five sentences in each paragraph), explain how this quote applies to you and your talents.

7th Graders- Complete Simple Solutions Lesson 84. Remember, your next book project is due on February 16th, you should have all picked out a book by now and be well on your way to completing the project. Social Studies homework is to read pages 157-159 and answer questions 1, 3, 4, 5 in complete sentences.

6th Graders- Complete Simple Solutions Lesson 82. The "Conjunctions" worksheet is also due tomorrow. Also, remember your Social Studies questions assigned yesterday are due tomorrow, as is your "Flat Stanley in History" drawing.

7th Graders- COmplete Simple Solutions Lesson 82. Also, your "Flat Stanley in U.S. History" is due tomorrow with your brief two paragraph write up. Remember, these write ups are two full paragraphs where you can tell about your Flat Stanley/Stacy drawing, and also a little about the historical era we are studying (early American history to be more specific). You can make Flat Ben Franklin, Flat Stacy Pitcher, Flat Stanley Washington, Flat John Peter Zenger, etc... Have fun with it!

ILA HW: Simple Solutions Lesson 80, and read pages 311-314 in your "Elements of Literature" textbook. You do NOT have to bring this book in to class- we have extra copies for tomorrow's class.

Both 6th and 7th Graders- Simple Solutions 75. And respond to the following questions regarding Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have A Dream" speech. If you need to review the speech, check out this Youtube.com link and you can fast forward to 12:22 in the video for the section we watched in class.

-What do you think Dr. King's vision for America was?- Please do not just restate what Dr. King said, but interpret and think about what he wanted for the world. Describe his vision.

-Has his dream come true?  Why, or why not? If it has come true, how so? If it has not come true, what can we do to make it true?

-If you had to say what your dream to make the world or America a better place, what would you do? How would you help the world be a better place?

These questions should be answered in full sentences, and in paragraph form. Responses are due in class tomorrow so that we can discuss them.

ILA- Complete Simple Solutions Lesson 69 and Word Wisdom Page 58

SS- Read pages 143-147 (started in class) and answer questions 1-4. Also, continue working on your pyramid project as we talked about in class today. Remember, the written portion is due Wednesday and will be written on the following topics: 1-how you made your pyramid, 2-what you made your pyramid out of, 3- whose pyramid you modeled yours after, 4-and some different facts regarding the original pyramids you feel are important. The writting portion of the project will be 1.5 pages long, and you will be assessed on grammar, accuracy of information, length of your paper, the formatting of your paper, and your overall writing skills. See me next week (Monday or Tuesday) if you have any questions or concerns so I can help.

7th Grade-

6th Grade- SSL52. Journal writing for ILA- If you could give anyone a gift or gifts this Christmas, what one person would you choose, what would you give that person, and why?

7th Grade- SSL49, Complete Holt Handbook page 125, Exercise A, questions 1-10 and page 126, Exercise C, 26-36. Social Studies test will be a week from today, December 12, and we will do a vocabulary quiz this Wednesday, December 7 in ILA.

Weekend Homework- 12/2/11

6th Grade: Social Studies- write a journal response as a person living during the time of Hammurabi when he wrote the Code of Hammurabi. What is your reaction to the new set of laws? In three paragraphs, write how you feel about the new laws, is it better or worse to have them written down, and explained what the punishment for violating the each of the laws is.  Remember to indent each of your paragraphs, and to have three full paragraphs for full credit on the assignment. ILA- SSL51, and continue to study for the Vocabulary quiz on Tuesday.

7th Grade: ILA- SSL48. Social Studies- page 115 questions 1, 3-6. Remember you have the Chapter 4 test on Monday December 12.

7th Grade ILA- Simple Solutions Lesson 17 and continue/begin reading book for project.

7th Grade SS- Pretending to start your own colony, write the rules or laws of your colony. You can write them in the form of a letter, a constitution, or a journal entry. This should be written (or typed) in the proper formatting, and be ready to be handed in the next time we have class.

6th Grade ILA: Simple Solutions L20, and write a 2 paragraph journal entry on what you did this weekend. Each paragraph should have 5 sentences as the minimum.

This Weekend’s Homewor, 10-7-11

6th Grade ILA- Complete the next Simple Solutions Lesson, Lesson 14. If you have your book selected, start reading. We will be going to the library this week.

7th Grade ILA- Complete the next lesson in Simple Solutions, Lesson 11, and bring in your play props for next weeks assembly- great work on that today!

7th Grade SS- Critical Thinking question from page 71, and questions 6, 7, 8 on the section assesment on page 73.

NOTE TO PARENTS: The 6th and 7th graders will be working on a reading project starting later this week. I have not yet assigned a due date, but it will be a long term project. I will assess the projects ona  rubric which will be distributed to the students later this week. Please feel free to email me should you have any questions.

7th ILA- Complete Simple Solutions Lesson 10. If you did not turn in your final draft, it must be in tomorrow.

7th SS- Read Chapter 3, Section 2 (pages 66-73). As you read, complete the chart from question 2 on page 73. After you read, complete questions 1, 3, 4, 5 on page 73.

6th Grade SS- Design a timeline of your life over the last year. You can use pictures- either ones you create yourself or actual pictures- and words to describe what has happened to you over the last year.

7th Grade ILA- Simple Solutions Lesson 9, and Finish your final drafts for class tomorrow.

7th Grade SS- Answer Question 9 on page 65. Have fun with your designs and make them as realistic as you can. You are not going to be judged on your artistic abilities.

Student Council Elections

Please see Mrs. Baeder or Mrs. Patrizio's web sites for the intent to run for student council form. Your homeroom teacher needs to sign it, as do your parents. So, for 6th grade you will ask me to sign it for you, and Mrs. Hale can sign the 7th graders forms as well. Elections are Thursday, so act quick!

Homework 9-14-11

6th Grade Social Studies- Write a text messaging conversation between you and an early human. You can pretend to be an early human too, or you can ask questions and talk as a person from 2011. The conversation should include at least 7 "texts" from each person in the conversation. They do not have to be full sentences, but they should be full thoughts.

Homework Assignments for Tuesday 9/13/11

6th Grade ILA- Page 11 in "Word Wisdom" book. Use complete sentences in your responses and proper use of each word. If you can not remember what the words mean, you may use a dictionary.

6th Grade SS- Draw a picture of what you think a cave would have looked like 30,000 years ago. Be sure to show people, food, decorations and anything else you think would be in a cave.

7th- SS- Write one paragraph from the perspective of a member of Christopher Columbus' first voyage to the New World. Pick a day and briefly describe what you would be feeling as a member of the crew.

Homework Assignments September 12th

6th Grade ILA- Remember that your Setting Designs are due tomorrow in class. We will discuss what you have created. If you did not get your homework due today in, you can hand it in for partial credit tomorrow, so please try to get that in.

6th Grade Social Studies- Define the vocabulary words from page 22. Be prepared to hand them in and discuss their meanings.

7th Grade ILA- Your summer stories are due tomorrow, please hand them in on time for full credit.

7th Grade Social Studies- Answer questions 1, 3, 4, 5 on page 15. You do not have to do question 2. The questions are in regards to the reading from todays class.

Homework Assignments for Friday September 9

Seventh Grade Social Studies- Read Pages 6-9 in your American History text. Be prepared to answer the review questions, and discuss the reading on Monday.

Sixth Grade Social Studies- Read Pages 15-20 and answer review questions 1-3 at the end of the chapter and be prepared to discuss your answers in class.

Sixth Grade ILA- Finish your "Summer essays" assigned on Wednesday. If you did not finish answering questions 1-10 from Exercise 5 on Page 9 in class today, please finish by finishing the sentences by writing the predicate. Do not forget that you "setting design" piece of writing is due on Tuesday. We will use this piece of writing to begin developing a personal narrative.

7th Grade Homework ILA

Write 3-4 paragraphs in your ILA journal describing one of your favorite activities or vacations from one of your past summer vacations. Be sure to use descriptive language, and paint a picture in the minds of your readers about your experience. This assignment is to be turned in one Tuesday of next week.

Sixth Grade Homework September 7, 2011

Social Studies homework which is due on the next SS6 meeting which is Friday is to fill in the "T-Chart" we began in class today. For each section of the chart you should list ways in which each group 1- communicated, 2-built things (houses, huts, settlements, tools- what was used to complete these tasks), 3- Had fun and leisure activities, and 4- Traveled.

ILA Homework which will be due Monday September 12, 2011 is to write a 3 paragraph essay answering the question "What was your favorite activity/vacation/part of this past summer?" Your responses should be written in your ILA journal and written in your best handwriting. Your journals will be collected for me to review your responses.
