Seventh Grade Social Studies
Hi Seventh Grade- I promised some of you that I would try to put up some of the terms for the test tomorrow. Here are the big ones, but like I said in class and all week- the bold words are what you want to be looking at. Here is the list:
Three-Fifths Compromise, The Bill of Rights, The Constitution, Philadelphia 1787, James Madison, The New Jersey Plan, The Virginia Plan, The Great Compromise (also called the Connecticut Compromise), Levy, Ratification, The Articles of Confederation (remember the problems with the Articles from the chart in Section 1), Shay's Rebellion, Constitutional Convention, Founders, know the three branches of the government (executive, legislative, judicial) and what they do, Checks and Balances, Federalists vs. Antifederalists, and The Federalist Papers.

6th Grade- Prepare for your Social Studies test tonight. The test is the same format as we have been doing all year, and is one of the easier ones in terms of the difficulty. For ILA, read/answer the questions on pages 410-412 in your Elements of Literature book.
7th Grade- Prepare for your Social Studies test tomorrow, remembering to study the bold faced words in the text, as well as the notes from today, and the notes from the Bill of Rights projects. For ILA, read and answer the questions on page 638-640 of your Elements of Literature book.

6th Grade- Your Social Studies test on the Greeks will be on Wednesday. We will review for the entire class periods on Monday and Tuesday, but you should study on your own this weekend as well. Also, complete the worksheet from Social Studies class today, as well as Simple Solutions Lesson 139.
7th Grade- We will have our Social Studies test on Thursday of this coming week, so you should begin to review the key terms from the book in our chapter; we will review on Tuesday, and I will help you with some of the terms on Monday when we finish the presentations. Also, complete Simple Solutions Lesson 139.

6th Grade- ILA: Simple Solutions Lesson 113. Social Studies: Complete your "Flat Greek" assignment from today. Remember, you are to write 3 paragraphs (at the minimum) about a possible story for your Ancient Greek character (we are using the same characters for this as we are in the baseball card assignment). Along with your story, illustrate your "Flat" that I handed out in class today. Be sure to include the god/goddess/hero/titan you are writing about, as well as a background to go with it.
7th Grade; ILA: Simple Solutions Lesson 113. Make sure that you have your reading/writing assignment done from Friday's class in your Elements of Literature book. 7th Grade- For ILA, please complete SSL104, as well as the poem on "cars" we started today in class. The poem is to have a minimum of 12 lines, and have a rhyme scheme. These are to be turned in tomorrow. Your Social Studies homework is to read pages 195-201 in your text book, and answer the Section Assessment questions 1, 3, 4, 5 on page 201.

Here are tonights homework assignments:
6th Graders: SSL103. Also, the poem assignment from today in class: your assignment is to write a poem with no less than 12 lines, and include a rhyme scheme (either internal, or end rhymes). The topic of the poem can be anything school related, even sports.
7th Graders: SSL103, and page 386 in your HH, Exercise 13. This is the assignment I handed back today, and we went over in class. The notes I gave were about Subject-Verb agreement, which will help you to complete the assignment. If you need more help, check out the "Agreement" chapter in your HH.
Tonight’s Homework, 2-28-12
6th Grade- SSL101, write one paragraph that discusses how our two readings, this weekends reading about King Long Shanks, and todays reading about "The Emperor's New Clothes." Use examples to tell how these two readings are similar. This should be a full paragraph (5-7 sentences). In addition to that paragraph, write a paragraph about what how the two were different, again, use examples from the readings to demonstrate how they are different. For social studies, study the notes we took in class today for our test tomorrow. Remember, the questions will be very similar to the notes from today.
7th Grade- SSL101, and Holt Handbook page 386, exercises 13 and 14. For these exercises, you only have to write the correct word- not re-write the entire sentence. Social Studies- prepare for your test on Thursday- use the notes we went over in class today. Especially the terms and how they pertain to our theme- "The Road to the Revolution."

Remember, all of your homework is going to be checked on Tuesday, rather than monday due to the field trip!
6th Grade- We will be having our social studies test next week so you should begin to be studying for that like we were in class today. Also, read pages 283-291 in the Elements of Literature text book, and respond to the following prompt: "In your own words, what is the theme of the reading, and what is the moral of the story?" Your responses should be in full sentences, and should be no less than one full paragraph. Also, Simple Solutions Lesson 100.
7th Grade- We will be taking the test on "The Road to the Revolution" on Thursday afternoon, so we should all be continuing to study for that. To help study, on page 174 in your Social Studies textbook answer questions 5, 6, 7 to be handed in on Tuesday. For ILA, complete Simple Solutions Lesson 100, and read the story on page 273-281 in Elements of Literature, and answer questions 1 and 4 on page 282.

I will give you a little more class time tomorrow to work on them, but after that it is up to you to get the project done on your own time. 7th Grade HW: ILA- Complete Simple Solutions Lesson 91. Complete Holt Handbook page 347, Exercise 1 for tomorrow's class. Social Studies- finish your letter to either: a) Parliament, b) King George III, or c) the Royal Governor expressing your feelings on the Stamp, Sugar, and Quartering Acts of the 1760's. Your letter should be set up properly and ready to hand in tomorrow, and you should take the perspective of an American colonist.

6th Graders: Complete Simple Solutions Lesson 88 for homework, and begin reviewing your spelling words. Here is the list of words (the list is also on page 344): Contact, contract, advance, depth, comment, summit, sketch, nonsense, splendid, ethnic, liquid, impulse. The test for these words will be on Monday, February 13th.
Social Studies homework is to read pages 198 and 199, and answer the questions on Page 199.
7th Grade Homework: Simple Solutions Lesson 89 as well as the journal entry discussed in class. The opening line of everyone's entry should read: In the left corner, behind the filing cabinet..." Remember, you can take this as anything you want it to be- if you like mysteries you can turn it into a "whodunit" type of story, if you enjoy historical fiction, you can write a short piece about historical fiction... Anything you want it to be! Your responses should be about a page in length- I cannot wait to see what you all come up with!

7th Graders- COmplete Simple Solutions Lesson 82. Also, your "Flat Stanley in U.S. History" is due tomorrow with your brief two paragraph write up. Remember, these write ups are two full paragraphs where you can tell about your Flat Stanley/Stacy drawing, and also a little about the historical era we are studying (early American history to be more specific). You can make Flat Ben Franklin, Flat Stacy Pitcher, Flat Stanley Washington, Flat John Peter Zenger, etc... Have fun with it!

-What do you think Dr. King's vision for America was?- Please do not just restate what Dr. King said, but interpret and think about what he wanted for the world. Describe his vision.
-Has his dream come true? Why, or why not? If it has come true, how so? If it has not come true, what can we do to make it true?
-If you had to say what your dream to make the world or America a better place, what would you do? How would you help the world be a better place?
These questions should be answered in full sentences, and in paragraph form. Responses are due in class tomorrow so that we can discuss them.

6th Grade
ILA- Complete Simple Solutions Lesson 69 and Word Wisdom Page 58
SS- Read pages 143-147 (started in class) and answer questions 1-4. Also, continue working on your pyramid project as we talked about in class today. Remember, the written portion is due Wednesday and will be written on the following topics: 1-how you made your pyramid, 2-what you made your pyramid out of, 3- whose pyramid you modeled yours after, 4-and some different facts regarding the original pyramids you feel are important. The writting portion of the project will be 1.5 pages long, and you will be assessed on grammar, accuracy of information, length of your paper, the formatting of your paper, and your overall writing skills. See me next week (Monday or Tuesday) if you have any questions or concerns so I can help.
7th Grade-

Make sure that your responses are well thought out and organized, and a minimum of 1.5 written pages, and no less than 3/4 page if you are single spaced typing (double spaced typed responses should be 1.5 pages).

6th Grade- SSL52. Journal writing for ILA- If you could give anyone a gift or gifts this Christmas, what one person would you choose, what would you give that person, and why?
7th Grade- SSL49, Complete Holt Handbook page 125, Exercise A, questions 1-10 and page 126, Exercise C, 26-36. Social Studies test will be a week from today, December 12, and we will do a vocabulary quiz this Wednesday, December 7 in ILA.
Weekend Homework- 12/2/11
6th Grade: Social Studies- write a journal response as a person living during the time of Hammurabi when he wrote the Code of Hammurabi. What is your reaction to the new set of laws? In three paragraphs, write how you feel about the new laws, is it better or worse to have them written down, and explained what the punishment for violating the each of the laws is. Remember to indent each of your paragraphs, and to have three full paragraphs for full credit on the assignment. ILA- SSL51, and continue to study for the Vocabulary quiz on Tuesday.
7th Grade: ILA- SSL48. Social Studies- page 115 questions 1, 3-6. Remember you have the Chapter 4 test on Monday December 12.

7th Grade- SSL44 and complete Exercises 1 and 2 from pages 115-116 in your Holt Handbook. Remember, the assignment is 1-10 on Exercise 1, and 1-5 on Exercise 2. Vocabulary Quiz is tomorrow for the words on page 34 in your Word Wisdom book.

7th Grade SS- Pretending to start your own colony, write the rules or laws of your colony. You can write them in the form of a letter, a constitution, or a journal entry. This should be written (or typed) in the proper formatting, and be ready to be handed in the next time we have class.

6th Grade ILA: Simple Solutions L20, and write a 2 paragraph journal entry on what you did this weekend. Each paragraph should have 5 sentences as the minimum.
