Dear Friends,
Please be advised that the third and eight grades will be collecting cleaning items for
our Missionaries of Charity this week. The supplies collected will go to the nun’s that
help the homeless. Some of the supplies requested are Comet, Soft Scrub bleach,
Lysol, dishwashing liquid, laundry detergent, paper towels and toilet paper (generic
brands are welcome). My hope is for each child to bring in at least two items. Anything
donated would be greatly appreciated. Collection will begin tomorrow and end on

Second Grade Grading Rubric
Second Grade students receive grades of O, G, S, N, on their report card per guidelines set by the Diocese of Trenton.
These are the score equivelents for Genesis and Report Cards:
O = 100-93
G = 92-85
S = to 84-76
N = to 75-70
*On assignments students may receive an O+ for outstanding work which will be equal to 100. They can also receive a G+ which equals a 92 and an S+ which equals an 84. These grades will show as O, G, S, N on their report card.

Homework will be posted on the school website every week. The second grade students are responsible for bringing their homework home along with the right books to study. I will be making sure they have the right books for the first month. I will be signing their homework books everyday to make sure it is written correctly. The spelling words will also be on the school website every week. Their work should be independent with as little help from you as possible. This year is when they should start their independence and learning to be responsible for themselves.

Yellow-Warning! Student did not follow a rule or was misbehaving in class, lunch, or an activity.
Red-Note or Call home! Student did not follow the rules after several verbal warnings.
**2 Red cards will result in a lunch detention.
I will record the student's color for the day in their Monthly Behavior Chart, which will be in each student's folder every day. Please sign and leave this chart in the folder each day.
Week of September 5-9th
I hope you all enjoyed your first day! It was so nice to meet all of you! I know that we are going to have a great year filled with lots of learning and fun!
This week our class will be spending time getting to know our classroom as well as our new books. We will be reviewing some things in Language Arts such as short and long vowel sounds, blends, etc. We will also begin writing in our journals each day and working on complete sentences. In Math we will be reviewing basic addition and subtraction facts as well as simple number sense.
There will be no written homework this week since we will mostly be reviewing.
Friday HW: Our first Reading Unit theme is called "Being Me." Next week we will be working on a theme project which is a class scrapbook. Each student will make their own page all about themselves and the things that they like. Students may bring in pictures or school appropriate magazines that they can cut out pictures, or anything else they like that fits on a piece of paper. Students are not required to bring in these items, as they can draw pictures in the place of them. It is simply up to them. If you are bringing in stuff for the project please have it in by Monday so we can begin working on it. Thanks!
On Monday we will get our first Spelling words and the test will be on Friday! Our gym class will also be on Mondays, so students may wear their gym uniforms on this day.

Welcome to a new school year! It is my pleasure and privilege to be your child's second grade teacher. Second grade is an exciting time as children embark on new adventures in the worId of learning. This is an important year where your child will acquire new responsibilities and skills as well as participate in sacraments and spiritual growth. I hope to make your child's second grade learning experience a fun and exciting one, and I hope to instill a love of learning that will last throughout your child's years of schooling.

Samantha Cipriano, Second Grade
I am very excited to join the Mother Theresa community this year as the second grade teacher. I graduated from Seton Hall University with my B.A. in Broadcasting and Visual Media in 2008. I worked for MTV as well as the show Who Wants to be a Millionaire. After wrapping for the season I started substituting and found my real passion was for teaching. I joined the EPICS program (Educational Partners in Catholic Schools) at Seton Hall University where I received my Master's Degree in Education. I went to Catholic schools all my life and have taught in them for the past three years. I value the Catholic education that I received and I hope to bring that same value to all my students.
