Introduction to Acrylic Painting

Mondays, January 30th, February 6th, 13th, and 27th

3:30 pm to 5:00 pm

Open to students in Grades 3-8 ($60 class fee includes a $20 supply and material fee.)

Young artists in grades 3 through 8 will learn to paint landscapes like a true professional!  This class will cover the basics of acrylic painting emphasizing form and color mixing.  Each student will complete 2 to 3 small paintings in the 4 week session, and the lessons will be adjusted to challenge each student.  (Acrylic paints will permanently decorate your children’s clothing.  Please have them dress appropriately.) 

 

Drama For Kids II

Mondays, January 30th, February 6th, 13th, and 27th

3:30 pm to 4:30 pm

Open to students in Grades K-3, $50

Come be in a show! Each week we will learn acting, singing, and dancing as we rehearse for a performance. Skill building and stage confidence will be emphasized, along with group participation as we prepare for a final performance that is open to family and friends.

 

 

Irish Step Dance II

Mondays, January 30th, February 6th, 13th, and 27th

3:30 pm to 4:30 pm

Open to students in Grades K-3, $50

Learn the basics of Irish Step Dance. Beginners will focus on Irish culture and simple dance exercises. Dancers should wear shorts and ballet/soft shoes.

 

 

Hockey Classes for all Ages! 

Calling all little hockey players! Now is your time to learn the basic skills for the fastest growing sport at MTRS! During these four weeks, we will learn how to stickhandle, pass, shoot and work together to score goals!

4-Week Sports Program: Basic Hockey Skills

            Saturdays, February 4, 11, 18, 25

            Pre-K/Kindergarten: 10:00am-10:45am ($35)

            Grades 1-2: 11:00am-12:00pm ($40)

 

4-Week Sports Program: Hockey Goalie Skills

            Saturdays, February 4, 11, 18, 25

            Grades 1-4: 12:00am-1:00pm ($40)

            Grades 5-8: 1:00pm-2:00pm ($40)

This program is designed specifically for players who want to play goalie, either in the MTRS “Street Devils” league, or independent roller/ice leagues (or if you have never played before and want to give it a try). Players will learn proper pre-game stretches, body positioning, how to move around in net, handle the puck, and most importantly, make big saves! We will supply the goalie equipment, but if you have your own, feel free to bring it! (Please note: if you do not want to play goalie, then DO NOT sign up for this clinic. The skills taught will be for this position only.)

 

Mini-Chef Academy II 

This program is designed to allow children a hands on experience in the kitchen. Students will make, bake, and take Winter themed treats.

Getting Ready for School!

At MTRS Learning Academy we know ages 2 and 3 are a perfect time to learn! Come join us in circle time and explore the joy of music, reading, and age appropriate hands on activities. Parents should plan on attending with their child.

History 101: Fun Facts and Curiosities

Grades 6-8: Monday, January 30th from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm ($10)

Did Columbus discover America? Was the Revolutionary War fought over taxes? Was George Washington really our first president? What kind of government do we have? Who assassinated JFK? These are just a few of the questions that will be answered in this exciting program that will make you look at history like you have never seen it before! Find out what the textbooks leave out, and see for yourself! Make sure to come loaded with questions, because there are no holds barred here!

 

Civil War: Strange and Interesting Facts

Grades 6-8: Monday, February 6th3:30 pm to 4:30 pm ($10)

Did you know that the first submarine, machine gun, and hand grenade were all used during the American Civil War? Many people do not realize some of the wild and wacky things that came about during the war that divided a nation. This program will take a look at some of those, and is sure to blow your mind!

 

 

 

Civil War: Booth, Lincoln, and the Shot that Changed America

Grades 6-8: Monday, February 13th from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm($10)

Before America could celebrate the end of its long and bloody Civil War, their leader and president, Abraham Lincoln was assassinated by world-renown actor John Wilkes Booth. But who was he? What inspired the murder to take place? This program will take an in-depth look at the political career of Lincoln and the acting career of Booth, and how he transformed from celebrity to murderer in just four years.

 

 

Public Speaking

   Grades 5-8: Monday, February 27th from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm ($10)   

An introduction to public speaking! Do you have a class where you need to give a presentation in front of fellow students? Are you nervous when speaking in front of a large group of people? Worry no more! This course will go over the basics that will help you next time you have to give a presentation in front of a group of people. Using PowerPoint and student improvisation, your fears will go away when you realize that public speaking can be a lot of fun! Students may also bring in any presentation projects they are working on in school for help.

The MTRS Learning Academy is now offering afterschool History and Language Arts homework help for MTRS students in Grades 4 -8.

Let “The History Guy” Mr, Greg Caggiano provide homework help from 2:30 to 3:30, Tuesdays and Thursday’s during the Month of February in the MTRS Library.

Each Session will cost $6 for the hour.
